Is AI-Generated Content Going to Hurt My SEO?

SEO

By Caitlin Christensen

35% of businesses have already adopted AI into their operations, and the trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

If you’ve been wanting to speed up your workflow by having AI write your blog posts but are unsure if it will benefit or hurt your website’s SEO, read on to find out everything you need to know about writing blog posts with AI.

Is AI Generated Content Going to Hurt My SEO

Is AI-Generated Content Going to Hurt My SEO?

No, it won’t hurt your SEO.

But let’s break down why and how you can use AI to your advantage.

AI-generated content won’t necessarily harm your SEO, but it’s all about how you use it.

With AI, content creation has become faster, and people are publishing more and more.

For example. Imagine three photographers writing about ‘The best venues to get married in Colorado.’

The first two photographers use AI to create content. Both are good articles but very similar and nothing has been personalized.

Photographer 3 takes a different approach, however. They use AI but guide it on what to write about, and then they go in and edit the content, adding personal insights and detailed information.

Guess who wins? Personally, I would prefer to read Photographer 3’s article, and most likely, so would you.

SEO isn’t that complicated.

Think about it: Which article would you rather read?

The better one, right? Google operates on the same principle. It wants to make the reader happy, so it puts forward the best article.

Therefore, writing high-quality content, even with the aid of AI, is the best way to drive traffic to your website.

How to Write a Blog Post Properly Using AI

The best way to use AI in blog writing is to think of it as an assistant rather than a replacement for human creativity.

Here’s how you can make the most of AI in your writing process:

1. Outline Creation: Start by guiding AI to create an outline for your blog post. Share your ideas, main points, and structure, and let AI help you organize them into a coherent flow.

2. Grammar Check: AI can be a fantastic editor, catching grammatical errors and suggesting improvements in sentence structure. Use it to polish your writing and ensure it’s error-free.

3. Analogies and Examples: Struggling to find the perfect analogy or example to illustrate a point? AI can help you brainstorm and find creative ways to explain complex ideas.

If you aren’t confident in your writing skills. Write the draft of your article and then have AI enhance it, and then go back and refine it further.

This collaboration can lead to richer content and will stop writer’s block from happening and always remember.

Quality Over Quantity: AI can help you write quickly but don’t sacrifice quality for speed.

Take the time to review and refine the content to ensure it meets your standards.

Personal Touch: Don’t just give AI a topic and copy-paste what it generates.

Add your insights, experiences, and voice to make the content unique and engaging.

AI is a tool, not a magic wand.

It can enhance your writing process, but it doesn’t replace the need for thoughtful, human-driven content creation.

Will Google Penalize You for Using AI?

No, Google will not penalize your website for using AI to write content according to their announcement made on February 2023. See below an excerpt from this announcement.

Google rewards high-quality content, no matter how it’s produced.

The focus is on E-E-A-T: expertise, experience, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness. As long as your content demonstrates these qualities, you’re on the right track.

Best AI tools for writing a blog

There are new AI tools popping up every day. The most common tools are:

1 ChatGPT: The tool that really kicked off the recent AI movement. ChatGPT can help you write, edit, and enhance your content. This is what I personally use for my business.

2. SurferSEO: I hear good reviews from SurferSEO but personally haven’t used it.

It analyzes top-ranking pages and provides insights to help you create content that resonates with search engines and readers alike.

The pricing is more on the expensive side as you can see below.

Jasper: Jasper offers various templates and customization options to help you write compelling content for different platforms and audiences.

I have used Jasper before and liked it. However, I found I could use ChatGPT for everything if I gave it the right prompt.
